Loking for some info about the best way to go to Tuscany? I've just put together a small guide, hoping that it can be useful to somebody.
By plane: Tuscany has two international airports: Pisa and Florence. Both have several connections with other European countries, but only Pisa will have soon an incoming direct route from North America, operated by Delta (New York JFK to Pisa starting from May 31, 2007).
By bus: Eurolines is a consortium of coach operators with offices all over Europe, which offers several connections from many European cities to Florence.
By train: Trenitalia, the Italian railway company, runs regular connections to other European cities, in partnership with other European operators. Direct international trains are available from/to Paris, Munich, Brussels, Amsterdam, Basel and other cities.
By car: Tuscany can be reached by motorway from other European countries, passing through the main points of entry into Italy: Mt. Blanc tunnel, Frejus tunnel and Mediterranean coast highway from France; Grand St. Bernard tunnel from Switzerland; Brenner pass from Austria. The main highways leading to Tuscany are the A1 Milan-Rome-Naples and the A12 Genoa-Rome. Detailed information and real-time news can be found on the Autostrade per l'Italia website.
