Help! This is a BIG deal.

We have promised an American BBQ for our local Italian (in Fano) friends in August. My wife has a VERY special recipe for BBQ sauce that requires molasses. For the life of me, I cannot remember if molasses is available in Italy. I believe molasses is, but maybe I'm wrong?

Can anyone help me?

La melassa in Italia? Forse?

My mother used to give me molasses when I was a child so I'm pretty sure that you should find it... probably in Fano you'd better look for it in Erboristeria (herbalist's shop) rather than in a supermarket.

I think you should bring it over. The molasses you find here is not the same as what you are used to and although I have found it at Natura Si grocery stores, it has disappeared from the shelves of pretty much everywhere else.

Thanks Cristina,
this means that I will also have to bring my own molasses over from Madrid!
Talking about different names:
in Italy is Melassa
in Spain is Melaza or Miel de caña (cane honey, I like this one!)

You can substitute Melata from a good beekeeper, it has a similar taste.
