I am planning to stay about two nights in Naples in July, but I have one major concern: my car from Germany. This car is not luxurious, but has Munich license plates and a big 'D' sticker. Is it safe to park this thing in Naples (I am already frightened enough by the idea of driving).
Would it be better to stay just outside of Naples and rely on some form of public transportation to get into town, or better to find a hotel with a safe garage? Anyone ever done either? Again this is no rental, but my own car...

Thank you, ira, for the recommendation. I had a look and the hotels all look fine. My only question is, is which one is the best location? I don't know Naples, so it's difficlt for me to figure to which one is the most convenient or in the most picturesque part of town... they don't look far apart, but every bit closer to the middle of things is a step in the right direction if I am going to walk it all... Thanks

Sarah, We've stayed at the Grand Hotel Parker's several times & really enjoyed it. I think Pauline has also. They have a parking garage which I definitely think you need in Naples. You can easily walk from the Parker's to the center of town in 15-20 minutes. They have a good restaurant there and a spectacular terrace.

I do not recommend the Sansevero hotel unless you are on an extremely tight budget and do not have even moderate expectations of decent lodging. Although the Sansevero is very close to both the Archeological Museum and Capella Sansevero, it lacks in everything else.
Here is a link to the Naples portion of my trip report. I stayed in that hotel last September. I found it to be dirty and horribly smelly (see the picture of the ceiling fan in my report). I also found the staff to less than helpful when these issues were brought to their attention. I am sure that there are much nicer places that you can stay in Naples that will offer you secure parking.
Ira and I will have to agree to disagree on this issue
I have already done my best. I have no regrets. Willie Hung
