Just What the Doctor Ordered

Congratulations Valerie!

Valerie, as ever, that's a lovely, touching piece of writing. But what fabulous news about the little place in Basilicata! Philippa and I are delighted!

I had to laugh at your visit to the doctor description, believe me you are not alone, I deal with that exact same scenerio everyday! The kids are usually asking afterwards-you already did it? Ah the terror of ancipation. Roll Eyes

What a lovely ending to your Italian Experience. How wonderful-Congtaulations!

Valerie, congratulations!! What an exciting purchase! I adore Basilicata, so let me know if you need a house sitter! Will clean/paint/cook for lodging! Smile

Best of luck with being back in the US. Will you blog or let us follow you in some other way?

Grazie mille! It was a difficult time, but finding the casina made it all easier to deal with. Now we're dealing with paperwork... Roll Eyes Oh well, small price to pay for our future. We so appreciate your support and sentiments.

Jonathan - we're going to be neighbors (sort of!) Please tell Phillipa hello for us.

Marian and Palma - Grazie!

Sharon - that's sweet of you to say.

Diana - Thanks, but now we're going to be at the complete opposite side of the country; I fear we're never going to get to meet!

Roz - that's true, a nice way to look at it. Thanks.

Colleen - so glad it wasn't just me! Smile

Chiocciola - I'm still blogging, but with everything still sort of in flux it has been hard. But keep reading!

We just moved to the Washington, DC area where things are more stable and positive-looking for income potential (we hope!) I am trying to put together a book proposal based on my Living Slow articles, plus the whole spectrum of our experiences that there just wasn't room to write about in a monthly column (so if anyone knows of a book publisher...! Big Grin)

I want to thank you all for your encouragement, your kind words, your emails and PMs, and just for coming along on the journey with us these past three years. It has meant so very much to us. It was such a pleasure to be able to meet many of you in person...we forged some very special friendships and we feel very blessed by you all. Grazie!

Valerie, after following both of your blogs the past few years and reading this story, I never imagined your wonderful surprise ending. I am thrilled for both you and Bryan! Congratulations!

I understand completely about your anxiety of needles. I am already obsessing about my flu shot I will be getting during our school flu shot day in October! And now this year there will be 2 flu shots with the H1N1 shot!

Me too! Under-the-table shots had a very particular meaning for both my mom and my doctor!

I enjoyed immensely your monthly column and wish you all the best. Congratulations and a speedy return to La Bella Italia. Champagne

Girasoli - Thank you! Keep reading the blogs; you never know when we'll hop a plane and head back over! Big Grin

Eek Two shots? Eek! Good luck with that.

Jan - I'm glad you liked it so much. Thanks for the well-wishes. Tell Lyn and Anthony 'hi'!

Hi Lyn, good to see you're still hanging around here! Hope you and Anthony and the girls are all doing well. Thanks for the encouragement. I figure if this woman can get a book contract, there is hope for me! Garlic Man

Yes, let me rephrase that..you are already an author...I mean a published author, who will be making tons of money from the sales of her outstanding works. I'll certainly buy a hard cover copy when (not if) the time comes.

p.s. the girls are fine. The oldest 2 are on a trip to Europe right now, though not to Italy this time.

Hey Lyn, thanks...I'm glad I'd be able to sell at least one hard-back copy! Big Grin We went to Anthony's cousin's winery a few weeks ago; she wasn't there that day, but we had a nice lunch and wandered to some of the covered bridges in the area. Glad to hear the girls are traveling!
