I was holding off purchasing my air for my late Sept trip LAX-Rome as I thought airfares would go down. The cheapest I found Sept 30-October 15 is 785 on Swiss air, but I would like to fly with my wife who has a FF ticket on air France.
938 dollars! It has gone up 100 I suppose for fuel costs, should I buy now or wait? RR

Robert, I would stay patient. The fuel surcharge is an up arrow to the cost of the flight, but I don't think it's as big of an up arrow as people believe it to be. I still think you have to stay diligent and monitor the fare changes almost on a daily basis. Because there will be a day when almost inexplicably the fare will be much lower. And that's when you buy. That said, you do need to get a ticket and sooner or later you'll buy a ticket no matter what the price is. I just don't think that moment is now considering a sept 30 departure date. I would get nervous around May-June timeframe.
