We are just missing Traviata at La Fenice and the Verona Opera season doesn't get started until June. Any other suggestions for live performances, preferably opera, in Venice?

You may like to attend some of the performances listed HERE. The ones at the Scuola Grande di San Giovanni Evangelista are really delightful.

You are amazing! Thank you so much. Kiss Kiss I love all the selections, especially the Vivaldi and Puccini.

Ginger, you'll be seeing signs all over Venice for Musica a Palazzo.

My husband and I attended twice when we were in Venice last Fall - excellent performances in a special location.

We would like to see The Four Seasons, however, the performance is at 9 p.m. and we can't seem to locate where it is, so we can arrange transportation. Any ideas of location? It is at the Cheisa di San Vidal. I've looked at the Streetwise map and also Eyewitness Venice but can't find it.

Ginger,

What dates will you be in Venice? We will be there May 24-28. It would be a hoot (a good ole southern term) if we were there at the same time since we failed in our attempts to G-T-G here in Florida (my fault) Frown.

Thank you Peter. Smile Kiss

Now, I have never listened to The Four Season's in it's entirety (sp?) so I don't know how long the concert will be. Can you still pick up a water taxi around or after midnight?

The 4 Seasons complete isn't at all long: 4 concertos, each lasting around 10 minutes. So they might well put something else into the programme.

Where is your hotel: are you sure you'll need a water taxi? Walking through Venice at night is a real pleasure: far less crowded, of course, and most of it is pretty well lit.

If you zoom out on the map which Peter has linked to, you'll see that S Vidal is pretty central. And very close to the Accademia bridge: cross that, and you've got a vaporetto stop right there.

A friend and I attended one of these performances, and really cannot recommend them. We thought the experience was cheesy and overpriced.

I think a Vivaldi concert would be lovely. I've heard the Four Seasons perfomed a few times in Venice, and it's magical. I see that one of the concerts includes selections from Marin Marais - his music is sad and beautiful ... it always makes me cry.

Ginger,
I'm sorry we will miss each other in Venice, but have a great trip.

I sent you a PM.

Ginger,
The Select Italy links for the May 20 and May 27 "Four Seasons" concerts include music by Marais.

Are you familiar with his work? It's highlighted on the soundtrack for the 1991 movie "Tous les matins du monde," which is where I first heard it.
