Our plans are pretty set and we will have 3 nights and 4 days in the Cinque Terre area in early May and now I need to book a hotel. There are availabilities at both Doria Park Hotel in Lerici and the Locanda Lorena on an island right off Portovenere. The prices are pretty similar.

Which do I go with? Help!

Without a doubt, Doria Park. Locanda Lorena is a wonderful restaurant (make sure to eat there!), but there is not a great emphasis on their accommodations. Doria Park is a lovely hotel and Lerici (my hometown!) has LOTS to offer.

We will be in Lerici for 3 days over the Easter weekend next month.
Do you have recommendations for restaurants in Lerici, as well as sights that we "must see"?
Our Siena-based daugher can't wait to see the coast.

Try Bonta Nascosta for pizza and farinata (it's also a charming little place). For gourmet food, you will want to try Locanda Miranda (near Tellaro), but make a reservation now as it's quite popular.
Tellaro is my favorite little village in the area, just a 5 gorgeous minute drive from Lerici. Sarzana, 15 minutes inland, is a great place for an afternoon passagiata and shopping. And as you porbably already know, Portovenre and Le Cinque Terre are easily accessible by boat...

Buon Viaggio!

Give Jim Zurer time to chime in here -- he is crazy about the Doria Park, and stays there any chance he gets.

Ok it's done - booked 3 nights at Doria Park Hotel. Thanks everyone. This trip seemed like such a long time away, and now I realize it's just around the corner. I'm getting excited and nervous at the same time. I can't wait go to to Italy!

Sorry I am late to this thread, but I see that no harm has been done. Smile

Megan said it all....

The Lorena is a nice place to go for a meal but, in addition to the unpolished accommodations, unless you are looking for a "hideaway", you may feel a little remote there.

As for the Doria Park.....I am sure you will enjoy it.

However, I would be remiss if I didn't point out that if someone has any problems walking, the Doria Park may present a challenge. It is 70 steps down from the parking lot to the entrance of the hotel and, of course, back up to the parking lot. And the short 3 minute walk down to the waterfront on the via Doria pedestrian street is more challenging on the way back...it is a pretty steady incline up to the hotel.

Other than that, I can't think of anything negative to say.
