Their website has a 2/10 Google Rank which makes me think they have not been in business long. When I look up the domain to see who had registered it, they have blocked the information. Whois on Netsol The domain name was purchased in November 2005, so they have not been in business long.
The About Us only has a phone number - no company information.
I would pick a couple of apartments and google some phrases from the description to see if they are listed with any other agencies.
If you really want to book with them, ask them to put you in touch with other people who have used them.
I would be very careful about renting from a company like this without a personal recommendation. There are a lot of apartments in Rome that can be rented. Lots of agencies to rent from. I would choose one that at least one Slow Traveler had stayed at or had a review that I could read about it on the web.
The first rental agency I rented from in Rome did a bait and switch on me 2 weeks before leaving for Rome. The switched apartment was OK but more expensive. My vacation turned out OK, but next year when I discovered Slow Travel and did some other checking, I discovered that I was not by any means the only one that that they had done this switch thing 2 weeks before departing. I have been to Rome twice more since then and have used a different agency since then that has treated me fairly.

I feel the same way about Rome rentals - I have heard from many people having problems with agencies or rental in Rome. I would only deal with an agency that we have good reviews for.
Thank you all for your imput. I just love the listings on Under the Roman sun, but as you can see they have not much of a histoy and when I asked for references they said the page was not up yet. Its so frustrating to finally find an apartment that meets our needs and then read some awful reviews on this site about the rental agency. We need a full sized bath or jacuzzi and a lift if over the second floor for my bad knee so that eliminates lots of possibilities. We want to be near to the ancient sites also. I will keep plugging away and send tahnks to all that replied. Pennsylvania mimi
These apartments in Trastevere have a bathtub. There are three of them so that you could maybe rent the first floor one. It is across the Tiber from tha ancient sites http://www.rome-accommodation.net/rome-apartments-ap09/rome-apartments.php# There is Tram 8 (runs up Viale Trastevere) that will take you to Largo Argentina (where Caesar was killed), and frorm there you can walk or take a bus to the Forum near Piazza Venezia/Vittorio Emanuele monument. If you take tram 8 south and get off at the bridge Ponte Sublico, you can get on Tran 3 there and go straight to the Colosseum.
Its almost a month since my last post in this thread and I am becoming increasingly concerned.
I emailed the contact person I had at Under the Roman Sun, as sort of a "check in" to let her know that we are still interested. She mentioned last month that they were hoping to have credit card capabilities soon, so I wanted to see how that was going.
I'm sad to report that I've heard 'nary a word
I really dont want to have to conceed that my intial hesitation and reluctance was justified. I would be very happy to hear if anyone has any experience with this agency.
We are going to rent from Residenza Giubbonari because so many people have posted favorable reviews of their apartments. Their web site is: http://www.residenzagiubbonari.com/index.html
Their apartments have a lift and also have a bathtub and a shower in each apartment, as far as I remember. Funny, with my bad knees I avoid bathtubs because gettiing up out of them is so difficult!
I was happy to see that by renting directly from them we saved about 300 euros (for 4 nights!) from what we would have paid if we had rented from an agency that also advertised the apartments under other names.

We're renting from Under the Roman Sun from 5/20-23 to start off our sixteen day journey in Italy. We had no problem getting set up with Isabel including a PayPal deposit, plus through them we arranged a pickup from FCO. Hopefully all will go smoothly. The apartment looks great.
ripple, We've been back from Rome for about 2 weeks now, but still trying to hold on to the mystique
I have nothing but the utmost praise for Under the Roman Sun and Isabel. Not only was their property of the highest standard and quality, the attention to detail and service from Isabel was absolutely perfect.
