We are loaning out our Italian cell phone and want to tell them how to load a card for minutes into it. We have TIM, which we used last Sept/Oct, so it should still work. Are the directions on the cards you buy, for minutes, clear to someone who does not speak or read Italian---we can't remember how we did it. We have a pin number for the phone. Does that change between TIM and Vodaphone, which we had the year before? It is the only pin I have written down. I know it would all come back to us,if we were using it ourselves, but want to give clear directions. I really feel stupid asking these questions after using this phone for 3 or 4 years!!!

While in Italy, you can visit tobacco shops, magazine kiosks or convenience stores displaying the RICARIcard logo. On the back side, there will be a portion to scratch off with a coin that will reveal a 16-digit code.
Adding More Talk Time
• Locate the “SIM i. TIM” menu. • Inside the “SIM i. TIM” menu, locate the “Ricarica” (recharge) menu. • Inside the “Ricarica” menu, locate the “Ricaricard” menu. • You will then be prompted for a “Codice” at which point you enter your 16-digit recharge code and hit ‘SEND’. Your credit will be applied within 10-15 minutes.
Alternatively, you can try this:
• Dial 4916 and an automated message in Italian will state your credit. • After this message there will be a slight pause followed by a list of options. • After you hear “Uno,” press the 1 key for the RICARIcard recharge option. • Enter the 16-digit code. There will then be a slight pause. • The number will be repeated back. Press 8 to confirm.

Thank-you so much. We could not remember the steps before entering the code from the card.I don't remember the Tim menu, but remember it was not difficult. I will print your instructions for them.
I did give them the 4916 number to check the amount of time left. I believe I had it changed from Italian to English last year, so that should be easy enough. Thank-you!

You can also just go into a TIM store and pay for extra minutes without bothering with the card.
This summer I bought a card and when I scraped off the covering , the code went with it. So, I took the card and my phone to a TIM store and they "reinstated" the minutes. I had to show my passport--who knows why??? But the guy there told me, just come back here and forget the cards.

Thank-you! I told them to try to find a TIM or tabacco store that would put it right in for them, while they are in Rome.
