We usually fly out of Malpensa but this year we have to leave out of Linate. I can't picture this on the map - which side of Milan is this airport located? Can anyone suggest a reasonable hotel, B&B or villa somewhat close to Linate for our last night's stay. Price range for 2 of the people is no more than $125 US. Other couple is willing to pay more. Would prefer something other than a chain US hotel. Thanks.
Linate is on the east side of Milan, very near the Tangenziale Est (the eastern leg of the ring highway). The airport is not very distant from downtown; I have no hotels to suggest, but any hotel on the eastearn side of the city should be near enough by taxi.
Linate is not on the east side of Milano, it's IN Milano proper, although close to the border. The nearby area does not have many hotels: GuglielMothel (SIC!) is a place where young or clandestine couples meet, and not exactly the best location for a last night in Italy; there are a few chain hotels serving the airport (a Holiday Inn and a couple others, I think). My suggestion is to stay in Milano, close to the center, and either take the 73 bus line, departing from San Babila (Corso Europa) for 1 euro, or take a taxi. On a low traffic moment it takes about 20 minutes to get from the center of Milano to the airport. Outbout rush hour is the evening one.
[irrilevant to the original poster] Alice, I believe that some zones of the Linate airport are not in the Milano comune, but belong to Peschiera Borromeo and maybe Segrate
