I have just received the programme of the Opera Festival 2007.

It includes events which takes place between June 12th and August 7th in Florence (Giardino dei Boboli), at San Galgano Abbey and in Barberino di Mugello (Villa Medicea di Cafaggiolo).

Unfortunately both the website (www.festivalopera.it) and their brochure are in Italian, but I have written to ask if they have English brochures as well. I will let you know.

This is the programme anyway.

Giardino di Boboli

12 and 26 June and 11, 17 and 25 July, Tosca
3 and 31 July and 7 August, Rigoletto
10 July and 2 August, La Traviata
18 July, Carmina Burana and Bolero
23 and 24 July, Momix 'Passion'

Abbey of San Galgano

19 and 22 June, Rigoletto
23 June, ORT, Orchestra della Toscana
13 July, Carmina Burana and Bolero
25 July, Stefano Bollani
28 July and 3 August, Tosca

Villa Medicea di Cafaggiolo

29 June, Toscan
6 July, Carmina Burana and Bolero
20 July Rigoletto

Gloria, I have been thinking following the San Galgano thread and seriously about a visit - to see one of these productions there my just tip the plan into action. What a magical opportunity.

I have searched the link you provided, but cannot find the actual times of the performances. Do you have any idea?

I gather the drive from San Galgano to Montepulciano (where we will be staying) is about an 90 minutes - a long drive late at night!

Hello Sheena,
Every festival opera performance I've been to in Italy starts at 9 or 9 15 which in real terms can become as late as 9 45 if they are hoping the rain will stop!

We drove from Torre del Lago to Grifoglia one August evening, about an hour and a half's drive and found it not to be too bad as we had our route carefully planned, left as the curtain came down,(well if there had been one)were first out of the car park and Kerry had kindly left all the lights on to welcome us back. When we felt sleepy we sang.. Note
The next day we relaxed but one important thing to note, the atmosphere before the performance, has been just as enjoyable as the main event throughout Italy, so if you do go make sure you get there early to enjoy it all.

Well of course it will not rain in June when we are there! Big Grin

Hmm, this is sounding more and more enticing.

By the way, in my post above the first sentence should read 'I have been following the San Galgano thread and seriously thinking about a visit' I have no idea how that 'thinking' word jumped around!

I will post the actual brochure on Monday, when I am back in Pisa and I have fast internet. Here in Civitella I am at 56Kb and it takes forever to upload files to the server.

I think they start around 9:15.

I would love to see an opera in the Boboli Gardens. Do you know where in the gardens, it will be staged? Fiesole would also be another wonderful venue.
