For this reason some roads will be closed to traffic and access to some popular areas might be denied even to pedestrians.
At the moment it's certain that Ponte Vecchio and Piazza della Signoria will be closed from 8 am of Saturday July 18 to 4am (or 4pm I am not 100% sure) of Sunday July 19.
I hope this saves some of you a trip to Florence on the wrong day!
...and Donatello's David is out on loan to Milan and most of the Science Museum is closed for renovation and...and it's still a magnificent city and well worth the visit!

It certainly is. What I meant is that some areas might just be inaccessible, so the people who have flexible dates, knowing that, might want to change their schedule. That's all. There is much to do and see even without Ponte Vecchio and Piazza della Signoria. Still, if one can wait a day, missing the two of them (and I suppose there will be troubles in between as well) might be a pity.
