If you are travelling now in Italy and Sicily take advantage of the "Settimana della cultura" You can visit museums and archaeological sites run by the Italian State or regional goverments free of charge until April 9th.
I was in Roma twice during past Cultural Weeks and both times didn't know about it until I was leaving - and kicked myself that I missed out on free admissions....
I'm posting on this thread to ask if anyone is in Rome now and taking advantage of the free access to the museums - are the lines outrageous?
I was in Rome last September for the Notte Bianca and was all excited for the freebies - except what I didn't count on were the massive lines! But I'm not the sharpest tack in the shed sometimes...
So I'm just curious if they are similar lines this week...
I was in Rome last week (March 25- April 3). the only free museum we got into was the Etruscan museum at Villa Giulia. I had thought that it was because it was Sunday.

I was in Rome until April 6. Lines at the Galleria Borghese were of course the same since everyone still required reservations. But as far as everywhere else - there were thousands of European school kids in Rome taking advantage of every museum! I would say the lines everywhere but the Borghese were definitely long!

We were in Italy from April 1 through 9. Its the state owned museums that are free and it was really difficult to determine which ones are those. Its not as straightforward as going through a list since we couldnt find one. In Venice, I cant remember having any free museums, we paid to get in Ca Rezonnico and Doge's Palace. In Florence, the Uffizi and Accademia are free but my gosh the lines were so long. So we paid to reserve but no entrance fee. In Rome, the only place that was free was Ca Saint Angelo, Colosseum, Forum, Pantheon (I think this is free anytime anyways), I believe the Palazzo De Venezia is free too. Everything in the Vatican you have to pay.
