Welcome to ST.
My friends' fave is Villa la Tour in the old town of Nice. I have passed by it. Great building in lovely area.

I've just created a shortcut, so it will also appear there.

I would recommend staying in Nice especially since you are arriving in the evening. It is easy to get to into Nice using the two Express buses from the airport.

You will probably find the more moderately priced hotels also in Nice. The Villa la Tour recommended above is always recommended. I think it can book up fast. Other options are Hotel Les Cigales and Hotel Windsor which are across from each other. This is a quiet area but still close to Rue Massena and Vieux Nice.

Thank you for all the suggestions. Sadly all the hotels mentioned are booked but at least if showes me where to go in my search. Is venere.com a reputable place to use for booking hotels?

Yes, Venere is reputable. Note that if they let you guarantee your arrival by credit card, it doesn't necessarily mean that they take credit cards for payment for the stay. Also you can try to Google the hotel name and see if you can get a better deal booking directly with them.

thank you everyone. Hotel Crillon it is. EVERYTHING was booked that day so I had to go for 2 days (how sad, 2 days in Nice!)

Final question...where can I find the train schedule from Nice to San Remo Italy?

I'm used to the Trenitalia site: in English http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html . Enter Nice Ville as the starting station. I've said that Sanremo is generally written as one word in Italy, but what do you know, the site wants it as San Remo.

Back from Nice. Wonderful time: Nice is good for a stay of 2 days or so. Stayed at the Hotel Crillon 44 Rue Pastorelli. Very central: 10 minutes to everything, train, Old City, the Beach.
On busy street but double glaze windows make it quiet. Price around 60 Euro's. Very clean

Bus from airport about 20 minutes. City clean. See castle, flower market, antique market. Eat at Ville de Siena (12 Rue St Vincent) for a meal to die for!

Thanks for your help everyone!

Hi Steven,

Welcome back. Isn't Nice a great city? Thanks for report on your hotel. It is great to hear that you had a good trip and found a hotel that worked for you. If you have a moment, we'd love to have a review on the hotel and restaurants for our main site. Here's the page for Slow Travel Reviews
