Many of you wiull surely remember the long discussion about the Paolo Bea Winery at Montefalco. I had promised some of you that I would stop by in May with our first group of the season, then report in on the 'results'.
That happened (sort of) yesterday. That is, our group went there yesterday, but they went with our tour leader, and I was unable to go, so I'll tag along with next week's group.
The group consisted of 6 guests (American and Australian), and I asked them to report back after having explained about the slowtrav review(s).
Every one of them came back giving the Bea Winery a 10 out of 10. We have done tastings all week here and there (Southern Tuscany and Umbria), and they said Bea was without question the best experience among them.
Once I have gone for myself, I will post a detailed review of my own.
Thanks for the report; given last year's discussion, it is nice to have the update. I am going to assume that your group had a reservation? And I look forward to hearing your personal impressions when you go next week.
Yes, I had a reservation. We make reservations pretty much everywhere, whether we need it or not.
In talking to the group a little more (They all left today, so I am a bit depressed), they really stood ground on what an amazing experience it was. They said that despite the fac t that Bea hasn't finished construction yet, it was well worth it. I even let them in on what the cost was per person (for those that don't know, Bea is quite expensive for a tasting/tour) compared to others, and they all insisted that it was well worth it.
All of this leads me to strongly believe that Dorit;s experience, while I am sure disappointing, was isolated.
More next week...
I'll be out there middle of next week with a group of 9.
