So, I'm starting to gather my notes about Liguria and Piedmont, in prep for our trip in 2 weeks.
In doing so, I came across mention of "Il Sentiero di Barolo", the Barolo Pathways. Apparently, this is a 14k path for walking or biking, through the Barolo vineyards, starting in La Morra.
Has anybody done this? It sounds just fantastic! I'd love to bike this- it's a nice short distance. But I don't know about bike availability. I know that our B&B, La Luna e i Falo, in Canelli, is supposed to have bikes, but I also hear tell that they are in disrepair.
Is it possible to rent a bike in the area, or is this not really an option? (Also, I'm big on helmets, but am supposing that natives of the area are not, and that procuring one would be difficult. Am I wrong?)
Have you used the website for Lange monferrato and roero?,they have a link to walking and mountain biking. There is one organized bike trip,I thought the borolo walk looks iteresting. www.turismodoc.it Are you visiting wineries? how long are you going for? we will be there at the begining of October. search under alba on this site for recommendations on restaurants etc. RR

OK, I called the enoteca regionale in La Morra to get info on the Sentiero di Barolo, and they referred me to an operation called "Trekking in Langa". I called them, no answer, so I faxed them, and a little internet sleuthing revealed an email address for the president, so I emailed as well. I'll keep you posted. All I want is a map!
We will indeed be visiting some wineries, but have yet to finalize any itinerary. On our list is Fenocchio, on the recommendation of some oenophile friends of ours who themselves are friends with the proprieter. We shall see...
We will be taking our evening meals at our B&B, La Luna e i Falo, but hope to try out some other spots for lunch. I already have a reservation for the Belvedere.
I was in my local travel bookstore this week and saw a newly published book on Biking in Italy by Lonely Planet. It was published in July 2003. I can not find it on Amazon or Adventurous Bookstore so it may have to be special ordered by your favorite bookstore. I didn't look at it much but I have used their trekking books before and found them useful.
