I need to reserve tickets for the Uffizi and Accademia in early July and wonder if anyone has had particularly good or not so good experiences with one agency or another. I looked at the list on slowtrav, but... Or should I just book directly through the museum? Also, does anyone have experience with the kids classes at Palazzo Vecchio?
Hi Nicole! Lucky you, going to Florence! Before I left for Florence last October, I asked the owners of the apt. I stayed in to make reservations for me. She emailed me the confirmation numbers. I printed them out and presented them at both the Accademia and Uffizi. No problems. Very easy!
The easiest and least expensive way to book the Accademia and the Uffizi is to make your reservation directly by calling 011-39-055-294-883 during office hours (Mon-Fri 8:30-18:30, Sat 8:30-12:30). Remember that the time in Florence is 6 hours ahead of U.S.EDT. Have the dates and times you would like to visit each museum handy when you call. You may have to wait a few minutes, but the English-speaking operator will give you a confirmation number for each museum. At the appointed day and time, you go the reservation window, pay 3 euro for your reservation plus the price of your ticket. They limit the number of people in the Uffizi and possibly the Accademia also, so on busy days you might have to wait outside until there is room inside, but at least you will get in as soon as someone leaves. This is an argument for picking a time first thing in the morning before the place gets full. For July 2008 you need to book asap.

We're doing day trips from Lucca, so I'll have to see if the rental agency will do it for me. Online is definitely a better option for me than sitting on the phone. I guess I'll just pick one.
Anyone have experience with the Secret Routes of the Palazzo Vecchio through Selectitaly?

So true! After 30 frustrating minutes online, I picked up the phone and was confirmed in 5 minutes! No booking fee and no advance payment (though we have to pay cash at the museum - I always prefer plastic.)
Also just an aside...often when asking some hotels to book for you many charge a fee for doing that so i would ask...that happened to us in Florence but we did not know it until too late...
We booked on line and had no issues, However I have also had Hotel do it with no fee, no issues and either way was successful, just remember with reservations, make sure you are standing in the correct line, this has been disucssed recently on ST. Basically a "will call" line not the regular line
