I just read on another website that the Villa Romana near Piazza Armerina is going through extensive restoration and that only 3 of the 20 rooms are open to the public. Has anyone else heard this? That is one of my scheduled day trips this April. I would hate to drive all the out there to find this to be true. Is there anywhere on the web I could find this info?

I looked on this website (which appears to be official) a couple of days ago and saw that it makes no mention (so far as I can see) of the extent to which the villa is open. There is a page called "Il progetto di restauro" which includes the word 'chiusure' 4 times, but I think this probably refers to the work being done to enclose (cover) parts of the mosaic. I hope we might be able to get reliable advice from a tourist office in Palermo before we go!

We drove to the Villa from Modica (on our way to Palermo)on a Tuesday and it was closed. A man was on the road near the entrance and he told us it is open 2 days a week right now (wednesday and sunday if I remember correctly). Not sure when this will change to a more regular schedule.

Thanks for the information. Luckily, there are plenty of other places to visit in Sicily!

Vagabonda on Trip Advisor has been giving updates. Last update was that only 3 rooms were open and it was only open Fri, Sat, Sun.
Since we were based in western Sicily on our Feb 2010 trip, it was a considerable drive and we decided not to go.
