Perusing the net and ST hotel reviews, I noticed they do not seem to be current. Knowledgeable travelers here can you suggest either a B&B or hotel (still undecided the benefits/differences with each) in Florence? Looking for a mid-priced (3 stars or more) place for two in mid-September for 7 nights. Our most important criteria are location and cleanliness -- oh yes, and a good bathroom! TIA

In Florence I have stayed at Hotel Casci four or five times. I have also recommended it to at least two other people who have liked it a lot. I plan to stay there again this fall. The address is www.hotelcasci.com This is a very clean, family run hotel about a block from the main market and two from the Duomo. I have walked from there to most of the main sites/sights in Florence. They are also very helpful with tour and museum reservations.

We stayed at Alloro B&B http://www.allorobb.it/Eng/index.html and it was nice, with a good bathroom. Shower in the tub. The only drawback is that there is no one on duty late at night. They bring breakfast to your room on a cart, as there is no breakfast room. But the price is good, and it's very close to San Lorenzo and the Medici Chapels.

But if I was staying for a week I would definitely look for an apartment. you have more space and a small kitchenette, so you can have breakfast in your room by yourself, and keep drinks and snacks in the frig, and perhaps make a few simple dinners.

wow-thank you. Please keep your suggestions coming. I do like the idea of an apartment if we are there for 7 days. Robert, the apartment link you referenced has already responded to me! Is anyone familiar with the Fallari Apartments? Here's the link:

I would appreciate hearing your experiences. TIA, m

I have stayed at the Hotel Burchianti in Florence. It is a small hotel that is a couple of blocks from the train station and steps away from the market. You couldn't ask for a better location, for the price. The rooms are beautifully decorated with original frescos.

Mario is wonderful, I am looking forward to seeing him again in May. Tell him Sandi and Gail said hi!

Residenza Carmine has fabulous, inexpensive apts in Florence
http://www.residenzailcarmine.com/e_5.htm
The bathroom in the Incenzo apt was bigger than college dorm room.
You pay the deposit by credit card and they let you pay for the whole rental on your credti card when you check out. The owners are across the garden courtyard and were very helpful.
The have lots of positive Slow Travel reviews. Flotrence is a small palce and everything is walkable from there.

We stayed here Florence apartmentand loved it. It is a walk up 70 stairs but is in a great location and is a beautiful apartment. The owners live right next door and are very helpful. Here's a link to my review Review
Hope this gives you another alternative. BJinNM

My son and I are staying in VRBO#274986 (also listed on HomeAway #156288) later this month. I will let you know how it was when we return. So far the owner/representative has been very helpful and responsive.

I've stayed at Tourist House Ghiberti which has a wonderful location and well-equipped rooms, as Colleen mentioned, and a great breakfast. Didn't hear too much of the hospital noises from across the street as I had feared after watching the ambulances pull in when we first arrived. We are staying at Hotel Casci this summer(bigger group this trip) based on all the good reviews I've read here and on other sites.

We stayed at Hotel Casci a few years ago. Clean, friendly, basic with everything we needed in a convenient location.

We've also stayed at the Hotel Savoy on Piazza Repubblica, but it is pricey (the company that we worked for paid for that week).

It is definitely 5 stars and the luxurious toilets are located downstairs below the bar if you want to take a break while out and about in Firenze! An afternoon tea (pot with pastries) is available and it isn't that expensive.

menehune, we rented this apartment on via Federighi in July 2007 and loved it. Here's a link to my review. The apartment across the hall is owned by the same woman, who is very lovely and helpful.

I would return to the above in a heartbeat with family or friends, but for my solo trip in Oct 2008, I rented this little studio apartment. I would definitely stay here with my husband, but not with other companions, it really is very small and intimate. But if small is ok, the price is fantastic for a room with a view just off the Ponte Vecchio in the Oltrarno.

Enjoy your trip!! I myself am totally in love with Florence, can't wait to return myself someday Smile

I have stayed at both Tourist House Ghiberti and Residenza Carmine mentioned above. If a B&B experience is what you are looking for this is a terrific spot with nice owners, a good location that is surprisingly quiet so close to the Duomo and a nice breakfast.

However, now that I have stayed at the Residenza Carmine (last May), I will never stay anywhere else in Florence unless they don't have room for me! Not only are they great apartments at great prices but the owners are the nicest people-and they love slow travelers. We stayed in the domus apartment that is very spacious and opens up to their beautiful garden.

If I were staying in Florence for a week, I would absolutely choose to stay in an apartment so that you can have some meals, snacks and wine Wink Grin at home and you have more room to spread out and be comfortable. Have fun planning.
