There are weekly markets on west-end of Lido on Tuesdays, and Mestre and Porto Marghera on Tuesdays and Fridays. There are quarterly antique markets in Campo San Maurizio (and elsewhere possibly), but I don't have the schedule. There are holiday markets at Christmas and Easter, everywhere.
There are flea markets in Campo Santa Maria Nova sometimes, all around the Miracoli church. There was one in late September 2004 in the Erbaria near the fish market. Usually there are signs advertising them around town.
I went to the mercato dei miracoli last spring, it was HUGE! We kept thinking we must have seen the end & then we'd turn a corner & it kept going on another little side street.
I bought so many fun souveniers that were much more special than the junk you get at the stalls near San Marco & the Rialto. If shipping wasn't so prohibitive I'd have brought home tons more, as it was I limited myself to what would fit in my already full carry on...
Oh and it's also just good people watching.
Here's the info for the ones happening in the next few weeks

I purchased a Buon Ricordo plate for €10 last month (March 25) at the Miracoli market. Also found a wonderful little "Ricordi di Milano" postcard book from the '50's. A couple of years ago I bought an old cookie tin for €1 at the Via Garibaldi market. They're fun to browse ...
Colleen, will I have to be fluent in Italian to use those numbers? I'm leaving Saturday night for Venice, so I'll miss the dates that Erain posted, but I'll be there for 5 weeks. Jim
Originally posted by Jimm: Thank you, all. Erain, is there a site I can go to for this information?
I found it on this Venice Tourism website It's a slightly clunky interface & sometimes switches into italian without warning, but is overall VERY useful.
