We are staying in the Campo di Fiori area. It has been suggested that it would be better if we took the Metropolitan train from Trastevere station rather than the Express train from Termini Station to get to Fiumicino Airport. Our flight leaves for the US at 11:00 AM. Please can you let me know which is better.

Yes, the train out of Trastevere is a more direct route, costs half as much, and runs twice as often. Based on some experiences I'd aim for the train leaving Trastevere at 7.36 and arriving at the airport at 8.03, but you can manage if you go 15 minutes later (weekday schedules). If you want to take public transportation all the way, tram 8 from Largo Argentina would get you to Trastevere.

Watch where you need to get off on tram 8. the first time I did this, I did not realize that tram 8's route did not end at Trastevere station. i went past if by 4 stops. i had to get off and get back on going in the other direction to get off at trastevere station.
