We plan to take the overnight ferry from Palermo to Naples in fall of this year (2009). If you have any current information about an experience, I'd love to her about it. Also, how is loading the car handled? Thanks
Before the Catania ferries started we use to use the ferries from Palermo to Naples. For us it was a really good trip. Buy your tickets ahead of the trip and get a cabin, loading the car is simple drive on, drive off Recomend using Tirrenia lines, newer, faster and more modern ships Since they leave at 8 PM you can see some views of Palermo and in the morning see Capri and the bay of Naples as you arrive There are resturants and bars onboard, but I just love the sleeping, rocked to sleep, unless the sea is rough, then its rock and rolled to sleep

I took this ferry route in August 2003. I really enjoyed it. The whole experience was really easy and nice. Definitely book a cabin ahead of time. They get very full at times. I'm doing the reverse this year, Naples to Catania.
