I believe there is a law that dogs need to be muzzled in public places, but it is seldom enforced. I've seen plenty of large dogs wearing nicely crafted leather basket muzzles dangling from their collar when going for a walk in town. Are there any resident dog owners in Italy that can speak to this?
I do know that a special health certificate is needed for international travel, and the veterinarian who provides it must have a certification from the USDA, above and beyond the usual license to practice.
