I'm after suggestions for a three-night stop between Verona and Asti, from June 6-9. Not Torino, as my cousins in Asti will probably take me there.

I'm travelling by train, am by myself and have an accommodation budget constraint of about 30E per night, although would be prepared to go slightly higher for the right place.

I originally thought Genoa, but the youth hostel seems to be really far out of town and has gotten some bad reviews online. All the hotels closer to the historic centre are at least double my budget, and the other hotels are all situated around the train station or port area and I wouldn't feel safe there.

Then I thought Levanto, as the youth hostel there sounds really cool. What is Levanto like?

The HI hostel in Finale Ligure sounds pretty cool too, and has gotten some awesome reviews. Would Finale Ligure be a good place to hang out for a few days?

Any other suggestions for interesting places to pass a few days, and do they have good budget accommodation options?
