Hi! My fiance and I are both US citizens planning a Tuscan wedding next may(2007). We have never been to Italy nor do we speak any italian. Since we are on a strict budget we are considering planning the wedding without a planner. Has anybody else considered or succeeded in this?
No matter what your budget may be (and especially if you do not speak the lanaguage), you will need a wedding planner here in Italy. The paperwork and process is quite extensive and time consuming. I know people who have tried to do it themselves and have either 1) not ended up married or 2) ended up hiring someone late in the process.
If your heart is set up getting married here inItaly, then make the financial sacrifice. You will be relieved and happy with the decision - and most importantly officially married in Italy...
There are many factors that will affect the cost of the wedding. Our final bill was around 3700 Euro in September 2002. It included: flowers for the bride and groom, 60 photographs in b & w and color put together in a beautiful album, plus all the negatives, help with the paperwork in Florence a week before the wedding, arranging of the civil ceremony in Pienza, transportation (one car)from our villa to the wedding site, a 20 minute drive, translation of the ceremony and filing of the necessary paperwork afterward a multi course meal for 7 people following the ceremony in Pienza with wine and sparkling wine to go along with the wedding cake
We wanted an informal wedding, something memorable not fussy. We were very happy with our decision to use Italyweddings and Ben Singleton. Our photographer Stefano Nanucci was wonderful. Make it easy on yourself and hire a wedding planner. Ask them to provide references in the form of email addresses/phone numbers from people who have used their services.
$1000 is very low as you can see from Callie's response. I know several people who have used Ben Singelton and all have nice things to say about his services. I have a client using him next month and can let you know how it goes...
I know several wedding planners and that quote is really the lowest I have ever heard. Why don't you get married at home and have a great honeymoon here? You'll get the fun without all the worring!
