I know much has been written about open jaw tickets but I'd like some help with our search. In September four of us want to fly from Atlanta to Rome and then back to Atlanta from Venice.

Here's our problem: we've found that most sites will let us search only for round trip tickets; either there's not an option for open jaw or we get an error message when we search.

We've been checking Delta every day and just today the fare dropped from $1400 to $1050.

We'd welcome any advice you veteran travelers might offer. Thanks!

Which sites are you looking on? Travelocity, Orbitz and Expedia all have options for multi-city flights. And I know that Alitalia does also.

What are your dates?

You will not find a link that says 'open jaw'. When you are on the search page, look for a link for 'multiple destinations' or try 'More Search Options'. You will get a page which will allow you to enter each leg. On Delta, try 'More Search Options'. On Expedia, you will need to select multiple destinations and then select it again on the next page.

Thanks Marta and Jim,

I was able to search on Travelocity and Expedia for an open jaw ticket. The fare was the same as on Delta's site.

When I search on Orbitz and Alitalia I get an error message before the fare is posted.

Jim, four of us are leaving Atlanta for Rome on 9/10 and returning to Atlanta from Venice on 9/29.

And on Orbitz, on the left hand side of the main page you will see this:

O Round-trip O One-way O Multi-city

For some reason--I will never understand airline ticketing economics--the open jaw option and the Rome round trip option are significantly higher than the Atlanta-Venice round trip.

I am showing $750 RT on Delta and slightly higher on British Air for your dates. That will save enough for a flight from Venice to Rome or vice-versa.

Good luck.

Thanks, Jim, for the advice. Our travel plans are somewhat complicated by the fact that we have reserved a car at FCO on 9/11 to drive to Tuscany for a two week rental. We plan to take the train from Chiusi to Venice on 9/25 and fly home from VCE.

So, I don't think it's feasible to fly into VCE and then to Rome. And, because of timing, I doubt that it makes sense to fly to Rome to pick up a car.

However, we're always open to suggestions from all you experts.
