I know that November 1 is a huge holiday in Italy. Does anybody know if Modena will be "shut down?" One year when we were staying in Arezzo on All Saints Day, most of the town was closed. Since Modena is about the same size town, I was wondering if the same would be true.

We could train to Bologna that day if it would be any better; though, I dislike being on a train on 1 Nov.....been there, done that and it was a zoo, but, that was in Firenze.

November l is All Saints Day, and many things are likely to be closed in any town in the country. You will be able to find enough restaurants open, however. If you have reserved seats on a train, why would it be a hassle to be on the train that day, though?

Best wishes,

One year we went with our friend to the train station in Florence on 1 Nov around 6 - 7 PM.
She was going to Mestre to fly home the next day. Reserved seats were meaningless, you couldn't even get onto the train to claim your seat. People were hanging out from the doorways and steps. Two trains after her reserved seat train, she was able to finally get on a train in a 1st Class car. She paid the difference when the conductor came to check tickets.
