WV cyndy, Thank you for the great list, I too printed it out. There were quite a few I had not seen or had seen a long time ago. Tell your husband, his list is a big hit! Sandra

I just saw "Best of Youth" for the first time and I loved it!! I thought most of the acting was wonderful. I'm going to see how many other films with those actors are available to rent in the US.

Chiocciola, I just saw this a few nights ago. What a gorgeous and haunting film, I loved it. I read somewhere that it was based on a Sicilian fable (I think?)

Filmfest DC has three Italian films in its lineup this year. Last weekend, we saw "The Girl in the Lake" (La Ragazza del Lago), a police procedural set in Friuli--in and around Tarvisio and in Udine. It is based on a Finnish detective series....it was directed by Andrea Molaioli--who has worked closely with Nanni Moretti in the past--and stars Toni Servillo. Very atmospheric, distinctive scenery, intriguing plot line and excellent performances. Later this week, we will see "The Orchestra of Piazza Vittorio" and "100 Nails", directed by Ermanno Olmi.

A new film just playing in cinemas here in the last month: My brother is an only child (Mio fratello è figlio unico). Really interesting film which uniquely, as far as I can remember, manages (deliberately) to make Italy look really ordinary if not quite ugly.

Oh I am glad you got to see it! Amazing, isn't it? I hadn't heard the part about the fable, I will have to look that up.
