Inspired by jan's review of the Albergo Piceno , I checked the prices. And I find that the rooms are MUCH cheaper than the one I reserved at the 100 Torri (a double for single use).
Being a believer in the dictum that if something seems too good to be true it often is, I am wondering if the 100 Torri is that much nicer than the Albergo Piceno. Both are new, small hotels in the center of town and both look lovely.
Can someone tell me something that will make me keep my reservation at the more expensive hotel? Is the location of the 100 Torri that much prettier?
Just FYI ----- many people have lately noted that the Palazzo Guiderocchi has been allowed to get rather rundown, despite the competition from the two newer hotels.
Marian, I was back in the US for a family emergency and didn't see this question until now.
I'd say that the 100 Torri and Albergo Piceno are currently similar in general amenities and style, offering a boutique-type hotel with "gourmet" goodies in the bath. Both have lots of whites and creams and light flooring (mix of wood and tile). The rooms at the 100 Torri are larger, and in the future they will offer a spa and restaurant, but those are still in the works. Public rooms (lobby and breakfast room) are also larger at the 100 Torri.
If you were going to be here in July or August when there are constant concerts and happenings in the piazzas, then I'd say it would definitely be quieter at the 100 Torri, but in October it won't be a problem. The Piceno is just a few steps off the Piazza Arringo, so it's very convenient for walking the centro.
I think that both are nice properties with friendly personnel.
It's a shame, but the Guiderocchi has declined in the two years we've been here. It needs renovating and seems chronically under-staffed. It's really too bad, because it's a fantastic location and a beautiful palazzo, and the desk staff I've dealt with are nice, but the management needs to get with it.
