I am a budding mosaic artist...adding to my repertoire of artistic skills. Has anyone ever visited a mosaic supply shop in Venice? If so, any recommendations? Or can any one living in Venezia send me information so that I can plan to visit a shop while in Venice this summer. Grazie! Jenny

I couldn't get this link to work...anyone else having problems?
Thanks, Marta, That was quick! We just bought a mosaic last weekend, and I was thinking maybe I'd like to try doing one myself...this gives me sometning besides glassware to look for in Venice!
Bob, grazie mille for the link to Roberta's most beautiful website: Walks Inside Venice. She may be able to help me with more that you know. (keeping my painted fingers crossed.)Also, I found two wonderful tours that we may try. One for kids complete with secret passages and torture chambers of the Doges palace, or the Master Artisan tour to artists workshops. Looks great!!!
I also know Sara of Venice walks.. they are very informed nice women! I am going to Venice next week with my family and touring with them.. doing the kids tour with my nephew! love the idea that they can relate to a person, Marco Polo and Casanova!
Thanks for the heads up Colleen! I had missed Sandy's introdution, but just added a few words to that thread.
Also, thanks for the advice about the tours in Venice that are of interest to kids...our grandson is dying to see Venice, but I know he'll get bored with regular tours.
Diva, I have requested information for the kids tour too...haven't heard back yet. Sounds great. What is the cost and length? Yes, I have known about the Mosaic classes in Ravenna. In fact I have put the idea into my mom's head that this could be a great mother daughter trip...now if I can only get away from the hubby and three boys for a week...hmmmm
jenny, just an aside - I live in Rome and an American friend of mine came to visit wanting broken glass from ceramic shops. We went into different shops in the center of Rome and asked (I asked in Italian) and we were given a LOT of broken objects FREE. stuff that was just chipped mostly. Not every shop gave but most of them came up with something and just handed it over. Sometimes it doesn't hurt to ask. I did tell them that she was an elementary school teacher and she was bringing the glass back to her students which was totally true and probably helped the cause. have fun marji
