After spending 9 nights in Puglia stating next week Big Grin I have only a 1 night stay in Rome Frown before catching an early flight home the next morning. I am staying in the Pantheon area and probably would like to eat our last meal in Italy in that vicinity. I have of course checked out all the Rome reviews but where would you eat for this "last supper?"

La Sagrestia on Via Seminario. From Stella's Rome list. My sister and I ate lunch here and it was one of of our best meals. Seems like a lot of ST's have eaten there but I couldn't find a review. Razz
Perhaps we want to keep this little gem a secret!

A Presto!

How much do you want to spend, Colleen?

My preferred moderately-priced place in the area of the Pantheon is La Pigna (also from Stella's list). Slightly further afield, I really like Taverna degli Amici on the Piazza Margana (a few steps from the Piazza Venezia).

We have always gone back again again to Mario's on Via Vite and Gioa Mia on via Avignonesi. not the most romantic or pretty inside but the atmosphere and the food are wonderful IMHO.

Peace

Thank you for the wonderful suggestions. I always love a good "down home" trattoria in the moderate range rather than fancy, high end meals. I will scope these out and of course Stella's wonderful list too.

colleenk, that's actually a really good question. I'm thinking of asking something similar since we will have 2 (recover from jet-lag) nights in Rome in June, but we will staying nearer the Piazza Navona.

Curious to see where you end up going.

What Mindy said! I really like La Sagrestia -- I've had dinner there several times and it's always good. Great service, good prices, lots of choice.

I don't feel I know enough about food to post a review, but perhaps it's time to rethink that.....

Cheers,
Sandra

La Sagrestia is really high on my list now with 2 ST recomendations. Thumbs Up
Marcia, can't think of a better place than Roma to get over jet lag. I'll be happy if all I do is sit in one of the outdoor cafes sipping prosecco while watching the changing evening sky over the Pantheon. It's been a while-can't wait!

De Orso 80 with it's 15 item antipasti mista is a great experience. Also Der Pallaro with it's price fixed 5 course eating marathon. Both are within 3-5 blocks of the Pantheon.

I too like Sagrestia but it is on the high end of my budget when you add antipasti, pasta, secondi and vino. Their penne with vodka sauce is to die for and Tommer loves the sausage pizza.

Reporting back that I had the good fortune to manage to eat at 2 of the above recommended restaurants. We had lunch at La Sagrestia and dinner at Osteria del Sostegno. Both were very good though if I had to choose our dinner choice was better but more expensive. La Pigna was closed for the May 1st holiday, so that made my choices easy.
I gave the owner at Osteria del Sostegno the review from this site written by Kevin Clark and he was very pleased! I think I received a bit more special service on a busy night after that. Thanks Kevin! Wink Grin

Colleen, thanks for reporting back. I hadn't seen Kevin's review before, but now with your endorsement I'm adding it to my restaurant list for the next time I'm in Rome!

I like the Osteria del Sostegno's website, it has a great map for finding the restaurant (which doees seem to be tucked away a bit)

Cheers,
Sandra
