I see lots of references to driving SOUTH from the Florence airport, but not north. We are picking up a rental car there and driving up to Cinque Terre. Can anyone give me some tips about the best roads to take or how to exit the airport?

It could not be easier. The airport is right on A-11 which is the autostrada west to Lucca---you will connect with A-12 along the coast. Good luck !
