Can anyone tell me where to buy a bottle of liquior in Rome? We are staying in the Campo area. Last time I was in Rome I thought you could get it at stanza, I do know wine is available there.

Does anyone know the cost of a bottle? With weight limits so low coming from the US I thought maybe I would get a bottle in Rome, if I don't have to take a mortgage out to buy one.

I have seen liquor for sale in a supermercato. One of my fellow travelers bought a bottle of Jack Daniels in a supermercato in Sansepolcro and I remember buying some Cointreau on a small supermercato in Sacile. As I recall, I thought the Cointreau was a bargain and the Jack Daniels was expensive.....so looking for something made in Europe will probably be your least expensive option.

You could also buy it at the duty free store at the airport as you are leaving, PROVIDING you don't have a connecting flight after you buy the liquor. (You'll lose it if you have a connecting flight.)

Bill,
Thanks for the great tip on the duty free shops. That is a great idea.

If your first connection is in the U.S., you can move your duty-free purchase to your checked bag when you claim it to take it through customs if there's room and you're comfortable with it.

Andrew, won't this will work only on the way home from Italy, and not on the way to Italy?

By passing in your checked bag, it will increase the weight. I would bring a bottle from home if I wasn't concerned about the weight.

I have purchased from my departure destination and gone through connecting flights with no problem at all! The liquid is placed in a sealed Duty Free bag with attatched receipt that clears security checkpoints.

If buying in Rome, there is a little shop near where you are staying on the corner southeast corner of Campo that has liquor as does the wine bar just down the same street on Via delle Grotte (Enoteca L'angolo Divino).

Or on Via Chiavari or via Monte Farina (I forget which one), there is a small supermarket.

Tony.

Thank you, I believe I know the answer but is liquior expensive in Rome Central? Or are we better off with Duty free?

Liquor is not thhat expensive in the supermarkets. If you have to pay $5 more for a bottle, it is worth not having to hassle IMHO.

Cheers!

Look for a large supermarket (ask you hotel), you will find all spirits you want at all prices.

You probabaly mean Standa?
Better ask your hotel, everyday there is a new supermarket chain, Coop, Conad, Pam, Penny, Sidis, I have no idea what will be close to where you stay.

Standa, you are so right, it's Monday and the pollen is out in full force, it makes me crazy.

Wow all those stores , Roma has certainly changed in 7 years.

Thank you

Check if there is a COOP nearby. We bought wine in Rome and all over the Med. on our 26 day stay and cruise. The highest price was 9 euros and the lowest was 2 euros. Both were good as were all thouse inbetween. It was the familar ones for 5x markup on the ship that did not seem so good.
