Diana sent us a very interesting article on some wines and producers of some not so well-known Piemonte wines.

quote:
So much attention is given in our beautiful region to the wines of the Langhe - Barbaresco, Barolo, Nebbiolo and more - that it seems all the other Piemontese wineries fall into its shadow. Realistically, the wines of the Langhe are among the most expensive and some of the most balanced and structured wines in the world, and deserve the respect and attention (if not always the price tag) which they receive.

Enjoy:

Thanks Diana!

Brava Diana for your well-written and informative article about some of the lesser known wines of Piedmont!

Timorasso is hard to find and always expensive, I must try the Mutti sometime, probably hard to find in Asti. Recently I am on a quest for the best Roero Arneis which is also a beautifully delicate and perfumed white wine.

Brachetto d’Acqui has always been a favourite and goes so well with strawberries, in season now.

And I completely agree with you about Barbera d’Asti as not receiving the attention it deserves, I believe this is because all the Barolo wineries have a Barbera d’Alba as their secondary wine, which their American importer distributes along with the Barolo. And organic producers are far and few between, I was at a wine tasting in Barolo a few weeks ago and was struck by the “industrial” nature of all the vines, my other new quest is for organic Barolo wineries (yes their still are some).

And I love a good Moscato Passito from Loazzolo area.

Great read, Di. and so much good info. Grazie mille. Can't wait for my next visit to your "neck of the woods" and a chance to try some of these delicious wines (with you!)... Wine April Fool

Wonderful Diana! I wish I'd known to search out Timorasso when we were there. Oh well, next time. It makes me want to drink the Passitos we brought back from Forteto della Luja, but we will try to hold out a little longer Smile

After reading your post, I have a renewed desire to return to Piemonte, specificaly to Castello di Tagliolo (vicino da Ovada) for their fabulous wines. Much lesser known than their counterparts in the region, they produce superiore and reserva wines that IMHO, rival many in the region.

Tagliolo is just beautiful, and the castle is a great place to visit. That is deeeeeeep in Dolcetto country, and yes, the best part of the Ovada region for wine, that is for sure. And still so undiscovered.

Fantastic article Diana, my mouth is watering, and I can't wait now to ask for these at the local wine bars, or perhaps make a little expedition to find them...

May I link this article in the Stresa blog? I think the information would be of interest to many..
