So my fashion sense is gone and we have discovered just how comfortable the ugliest shoe in the world is. Our question is if we wear our Crocks on our trip to Lucca in October will we be stoned by the fashion police?

I have seen few Italians wearing them, and not many younger -well, maybe kids- and I wouldn't dream to wear them outside the house-if I had them-, but if I liked them, I would wear them however ans wherever I please.
They're everywhere here in Lerici and Portovenere. THEE Summer beach shoes. But nothing less fashionable than grandma in a Italian moo-moo with bright pink crocks. That's what I'm seeing...
I am really curious as to the attraction of these shoes...anytime I have seen anyone of any age wearing them they look like the most unforgiving and uncomfortable shoe going...they never look like they even fit the person...they almost look like they should be shoes for the garden...I tried them once and found them very hard on my foot...but having said all this I am a true believer that one should wear what they are comfortable in not necessarily how they look...
To be completely honest when I saw the title of this thread I thought it was about buying Crocks(as in pottery) in Italy

Good question. I change my socks every day, but I guess Crocs are worn like sandals, without socks.
So my question is, are Crocs washable? I assume they are. Clean Crocs shouldn't smell after one day in the hot sun. It's old sweat that smells. So if they're washed often, problem should be solved. Tell your friend JP to wash his Crocs often, perhaps with an antibacterial soap.

I too thought about pottery right away. I don't care HOW comfortable something is...something THAT ugly should be forbidden! And those that go to the extreme of wearing the bright colored croc with a pair of dark, calf-high socks along with plaid shorts should be commanded to wear a straight jacket as well, in my opinion! I love animals, but this is one croc that must die!
They are comfortable, although they look like they don't fit they do, I can even run in them!
I need to take mine as they are so light and we are backpacking for 9 days, so when I take off my boots I put on the crocs.
Not only are they washable essentially they are waterproof, as they are rubber, they dry in 10 minutes unlike tevas(cloth on strap) which are also heavier.
Normally I wear them without socks but I plan for my impending Venice/Dolomite trip on wearing ankle running socks.I just bought blue socks with a fish design so all the locals can laugh at the crazy American. RR

Original Crocs do NOT smell. They are made with a tecnology that keeps the smess off them. Obviously, if you are sweaty you may slip, this is why theoy ought to be always worn with socks. Non originals smell.
Bby the way. I must be one of the few italians who does not own a pair of Crocs. I stick to my Birkenstocks.
Alice, I'm a Birkenstock woman myself, but to be honest I get mega sore muscles when I wear them sightseeing. I'm thinking of Crocs as a back up shoe for sore feet and legs.

A conservative black I'm afraid. The socks are Defeet brand and are technical running socks with excellent wicking.so look for the guy that's 6'2" wearing blac crocs and these socks.
Friday August 29th we will be doing the secret itineries tour of the doge's palace in the morning. If you like we could get together for a coffee at Florians. At 8:30am? RR

I think white crocs will be better, to complete the colors of the American and Italian flags...
Maybe they are 'nice and comfortable', but I won't wear them even if they offer me a free ticket to Italy. But, if I 'love' them, I wouldn't worry about what the Italians would think. Believe or not, many of them like the way Americans are, free spirited and practical.

Robert you are on 8:30 @ florians I will look for the 6'2 in crocs and you can look for the 5'10" lady with green glasses...the only reason I would not be there is if some emergency came up and if I am not there by 8:45 that's what happened.
