Does anyone know if Alitalia enforces their stingy policy?
I just read on Alitalia's web site that they have an 11 pound weight limit for carry-on luggage. The 11 pound limit may change my plan to carry on my luggage from Los Angeles to Rome, connecting to Florence, depending if they enforce their policy. It's a tight connect time -70 minutes - so I was counting on carry-on to minimize problems.
The size limit is not a problem, equivalent to a 22" wheeled carry-on. Will I be forced to check my bag or will there be a service charge for overweight bag? I pack light, but 11 pounds does not seem achievable to me.

I strongly support this request. Last year I experienced 40 LB weight limit for carry-ons with Delta, which was more, than enough. Now, with Alitalia, it is 11 LB... This is wrong. Do we have any feedback to Alitalia, by chance? Wrongdoings, like this do not add any positive points to Alitalia fading image.

I flew out of Rome last October on Alitalia and didn't see them pay any attention to the size or weight of any carry ons. Seems like enforcement just depends on who you get and what mood they're in that day.
Do you think the time of year makes a difference? I mean if it's low season there is less stress and people therefore they won't enforce the rules quite as stringently?
