Our office in Tuscany has just forwarded me an e-mail from the owners of the former Avis office in Chiusi. They say they are now officially re-opened as Hertz. Have no idea how rates compare with Avis, but this is good news for many travelers. I wonder if Auto Europe is aware?

If you're referring to the former Avis office in Chiusi Scalo I can only hope they are as good under the Hertz name as they have been under the Avis name. We rented from them on three separate occasions during a three-month stay last fall and were very satisfied. The manager speaks English and the office is located just across the street from the train station and bus stop, with the car pick-up and return just around the corner. Very convenient.

Yes, it's the same location and the same personnel.
Only the name has been changed.

I thought this was good news too, since I had a car reserved through Auto Europe (Avis) in Chiusi for June and then was surprised to learn (not through Auto Europe) that Avis had closed its location. But, the bad news is that Auto Europe is still showing the location as closed and if I go to the Hertz website it shows a location in Chiusi but has no availability for the period I wanted. I got my hopes up but I'm still car-less.

Elvis,

I too have a car booked for the former Avis office in Chiusi through Auto Europe. I was advised by them (AE) that the car that I have reserved will be delivered to me at the Chiusi train station, as reserved, but coming from the Avis office in Perugia. You may not be car-less after all if you have a valid booking through Auto Europe. I'd suggest that you call them with your booking number and see what arrangements have been made to honour your booking.

A partner nearby has confirmed that the car rental
office in Chiusi will now be a Hertz agency. People should be aware that the agency will close at 1:30 p.m. on Saturdays UNLESS special arrangements are made for a later pick-up that day.
