The January issue of Gourmet has an interesting article on Italian osterie, particularly those in Slow Food's guide Osterie d'Italia.

In the February issue of Bon Appetit, The Restaurant Reporter recommends three restaurants in Venice (page 64). I couldn't find any of them in Chow!Venice and would like to hear from anyone who may have dined there. We'll be visiting Venice for the first time in September.

Thanks, Linda

Oops! I should have looked at SlowTrav's Venice restaurant reviews before posting. I found two good reviews of one of the restaurants mentioned in Bon Appetit - Alle Testiere.

Alle Testiere gets great reviews everywhere. Osteria San Marco is a really nice place to have a glass of wine, and someone here (Bob the Navigator?) said it was a good place to eat, too.

I haven't heard of al Fontego dei Pescaori.

Has anyone been to this new "club" in Florence, owned by the Cibreo people, that was written up in Saveur this month?

Hi Shannon,

Thanks for the info. As soon as we knew we were going to Venice I ordered your book. Looking forward to some good eats!

We're staying at La Calcina (Ruskin's House). Do you have any experience with their restaurant?

Lucky Linda, staying at La Calcina!

I have not tried their new restaurant, but have had many a lovely drink on the floating patio. Will you be in Venice during the film festival? September is a great month to visit.

Judy/Diva mentioned it in a post a while ago, I think. I don't remember the context ... whether she'd just checked it out or she was planning to!

Robert, the blurb about the new Cibreo club is in the Jan/Feb issue of Saveur magazine. The club is called Teatro del Sale, and you pay a $5.50 membership fee which gets you in. Inside they have a salon for drinking and cavorting and a dining room and restaurant. For an additional 20 Euro there is a theatrical or musical program every night. I see in the photo it is right next to Il Pizzaiuola (my favorite pizza in Florence.) It looks pretty cool - the phone number is 39-055-200-1492.
