Hello, thanks for your overwhelming response to my first email. I decided to ask a couple more questions. What about going in the spring? I am trying to avoid the (high) season. I would like to be able to swim though. What is your opinion regarding agritoursim as opposed to house rental? Has anyone rented from David Cordingly? He has several properties for about 750 to 800 per week. Does this sound like a good deal? Thanks again for all your help!
Thia

One of my tenants stayed in a Cordingly property right before coming to Abruzzo. They said it was a very pleasant experience.

The more time you spend in Italy the more you realize that swimming is for Florida or the Carribean.

750 or 800 WHAT? That could change quite a lot depending if it was US dollars, euro or UK pounds (or just another currency).

Thank you, My husbands great grandparents were from the Arbruzzo region and I appreciate the link. Do you know of any good places to stay in Tuscany like that? It is exactly what I am looking for!

we have rented from David Cordingly and it was beautiful, very well kept, very well equipped/maintained. The only drawback would be that the properties seem to be a bit isolated, so if you don't mind driving everywhere on some very poor white roads you will be OK.

I highly doubt those amounts are in dollars though. When we booked it was POUNDS, so the 750-800 would convert to $1600+US or $2000CDN.

I have rented agriturismos in Tuscany with pools.

One closed its pool in October and I do not know when the season started. I would advise checking what dates any pool is available from.

If you want long secluded beaches come to Australia.

Hi,
The water in the sea is relatively cold until June. I wouldn't think of swimming before that. The water really warms up starting mid June. Then we were able to swim until begining of October. This is in general for most of Mediterranean in Europe. People mentionned in the past that they were able to swim until November, this was in Sicily.
So, if you really like to swim, then June or September can be fine.

I have rented houses four times with the Cordinglys. Every house was very nice, some even extravagant. I believe their prices are some of the best out there considering the quality of the properties. We are hardy New England types who specify that we want the pools open in late May even if the Italian owners roll their eyes a bit at this request. Just specify that you want the pool open. most of the properties that they represent are in the Niccone Valley, between Cortona and Umbertide and as such are a bit off the beaten track for some. We have, however, come to really enjoy the area and have managed to daytrip to many of the notable hill towns in the Umbria-Tuscany area. It is beautifull country and a bit less touristed than some. The Cordinglys, with the help of their daughter and son in Law, have arranged a number of wine and oil tastings, hiking tours and even cooking classes at a fabulous nearby agritourismo, La Calagrana. Needless to say, we are big supporters of this group and give them a big thumbs up!

Italians rarely (ever?) heat the pools at the rental properties, so be prepared for some chilly water.

You might also try www.lemanzinaie.it. Not so remote, near Montepulciano and Cortona. Very nice pool. Clean and beautiful.
