moving to Italy from uk, and have been led to believe that we cannot open an Italian account until we are residents. Is there any way round this? Or if we open an offshore (euro)account over here will it be accepted over there and or will we be expected to bank with the Italians?
You only need to have a PdiS and your codice fiscale to open an account. Residency is not required. As for having outside banks, there is no problem with that. The only problem would be the fact that you can't use an ATM card from a non Italian bank at stores (like the grocery store).
I do not know if this is normal, but I opened a postal account two weeks ago and I only hold a PdiS. I have chosen not to get a Codice at this point. I don't know if this is abnormal or not, but thus far I've had no problems.
Is this highly irregular? The first enquiry my husband made on his own, he was told I would need a Codice along w/ my PdiS and then the second time we enquired together the woman simply took my PdiS number and opened the account for me without question.
She probably calculated your number herself (using one of the codice calculators) so just used that. Why do you not want to get it though? As I wrote in the other thread it isn't a big deal at all.
