For those planning to visit northern Lazio, southern Tuscany during Easter week, do try to fit in one of the Good Friday or Easter processions that will be taking place that weekend. Hooded penitents, chanting,re-enactments of the Passion are held, usually at 9 p.m. on Good Friday at Blera, Bagnaia, Orte and other towns. Tarquinia's Easter Sunday procession of the "dancing Christ" (Cristo che balla) is another amazing celebration.
We were in Positano on Good Friday in 2001 and were fortunate to see a procession through the streets. As we were staying at Hotel Villa Franca at the top of the hill, we had a birds eye view from our terrace as they started from the top and wound their way down to the church below. It was an unexpected surprise.
