I will be in Rome and Florence from November 20 to 27. Are there any Christmas markets that are open that time of year? I assume we will see plenty of decorations in stores even if the markets are not open yet?

dingo,
I cannot answer your question but we'll be arriving in Florence November 27th and I'm also curious about Christmas markets. I am new to slowtrav but the people here are very, very helpful and seems like they really know Italy. Regards, Janet W. (stitchlady)

dingo and stitchlady,

Here are just a few for Florence: The big one in Rome is Piazza Navona Christmas Market, Dates: Saturday, December 06, 2008 To: Wednesday, January 07, 2009, Location: Piazza Navona

Here are 3 links that contain lists of Christmas Markets/Mercatini di Natale throughout Italy: Unfortunately, all these listings are in Italian only.

You will find other Christmas Markets/Mercato di Natale/Mercatino di Natale in Italy in my blog entry titled, Info on 2008 Christmas Markets (Mercato di Natale) in Italy.

I hope you find this information helpful. I had posted my information on Christmas markets on slow travel italy earlier this week but that posting has been deleted.

That's it for now.

It is very close to head up to Bologna for a fabulous xmas market.

But Christmas festivals mostly start on December 8th! So many now are commercial.
NAples has a part of the town which is dedicated the whole year to Xmas!

In Naples the art of the creche scene is continued from genertion to generation.

It is a little too far for a day trip, too bad.

If you get a chance the part of town is called San Gregoria Armena.

There was a market open in November in Florence in Santa Croce which was specific for Xmas, but it was a few years ago that I was there,so it may not be there now.
