Hello,

We are looking to rent a car for our week in Montepulciano and are interested in renting a Smart car. I have checked Autoeurope and kemwel and don't see one listed. Am I missing something or are they to be rented from a different source?

Thanks,
Susan

We rented from Kemwel in Chiusi a couple of months ago (I assume if you are picking up a car for Montepulciano you will pick it up at this location). The car actually came from the EuropeCar office and we got a Smart Car ForFour (four seater). I didn't specifically request it although we've always wanted to try a Smart Car. It was fun to drive and got great mileage. Here's a photo:

Hi vinolover,

Thanks for the info. So how did you get it? Did you request a regular car and they just upgraded you to this?

Thanks,
Susan

Ditto vinolover's story, except that I booked through AutoEurope and picked up in Venice.

Have you tried calling AE or Kemwell and requesting a Smart Car?

You might also call them for a more immediate response.

Hi! Robert - we are hoping for the 4 seater.

Also AutoEurope asked me to book a economy class 4 door car and request a Smart Car at booking. If there are any available they will put this aside for us.
But no guarantees of course.

There is a thread where I was asking about the smart for 4. I am going to choose that or another small car. See photo of smart car

Hi Robert,

Are you also renting from AutoEurope and choosing the small car in the hopes of getting a smartcar?

For what it's worth
We had the 4 seater for a week around Rome & Assisi...I must tell you the ride in the back seat was NOT pleasant & the braking was VERY TIGHT. It might have something to do with the small size of the tires but never again.
I would not recommed the car to anyone because it is uncomfortable.
We have used the Punto and found that much more comfortable.
Regards
Martha

We found the four seater Smart Car to be very comfortable and my husband thought it was fun to drive. Didn't complain about the breaking and we spent a week driving the narrow roads in Tuscany. But, we only had two people in the car and didn't use the back seat. The front seats had plenty of room and my husband is 6'2" and had plenty of head-room.

The trunk (actually a small hatchback) was pretty small but since there were only two of us and we had very little luggage it was fine.

I booked the cheapest economy size car with Kemwel, didn't specify any particular car. I don't know if the Smart Car was considered an upgrade, it was just what they gave us.

I am going to get a price from Nova and then if lower than Auto Europe get a match.I am not going out of my way to get the car but would take it. We have driven very small cars and have no problem. But we usually put bags on the rear seat as well, which may not work if you need to park with luggage.
Below is a photo of one of our rentals(Ford Ka) even smaller than the smart for four I think. P.S. I am 6'2" as well. RR
