We will be eight Americans celebrating one sixtieth birthday in late June. Is their a place for us to eat and celebrate in Belagio that will be right for this once in a lifetime event? We'd love to hear from anyone who has had a great meal and can recommend a place. Thanks everybody!

The Terrace Restaurant at the Hotel Villa Serbelloni.

There are other small, nice places to eat in Bellagio, but none come close to The Terrace for a celebratory dinner.

It has been a long time since I have had dinner at a three-star in Paris (the last was Tallivent many years ago) so I can only guess. Judging from the prices for that class of restaurant in NYC, with which I am familiar, I am fairly sure that the The Terrace would be less expensive. Still you can look forward to 100-125 Euro per person without wine at The Terrace. That would be at the very lower end of the higher priced haute cuisine (and the not so "haute" ) places in NYC.

The Serbelloni is one of my favorite hotels so I may be a bit biased. It occurs to me that you should rent "A Month at the Lake" with Vanessa Redgrave and Edward Fox, as the setting for the film is the Serbelloni.

I can't think of anywhere nicer. Make sure you request a table with a view but there aren't really any undesirable tables.
Pricewise I have to agree again,somewhat less than a Paris top end.
Where are you staying?
GHVS has a new residence in townLa Limonerawhich gives you access to all the facilities of the hotel at an extra cost.
We have stayed at Residence L'Ulivo in the grounds of GHVS twice now but no longer recommend that accommodation as it is need of renovation but there is a review of it on ST.

Bilacus is often talked up as the best.
We ate there two nights in a roll. Something we rarely do.
Sit outside, it's marvelous.You will need a reservation.

I enjoyed Bilacus too but the price certaintly was nowhere near a 3 star Paris restaurant. Food was very good though and the terrace setting was lovely.

You asked where we were staying but at the time I did not know. My friend says he booked rooms for us at a hotel with the remarkable name of the Excelsior Splendide.We are a group of friend that like to put a minimum of money in hotels,then spend what we can on great meals. In other words, we are college professors.That's all I know. And thanks to all those who replied. Is this a great site or what?

Then you must also go by boat to Hotel Villa D'Este for lunch or afternoon tea by the lakeside.

That way you can spend the afternoon enjoying the remains of ancient garden and the views out over the lake which come close to those of GHVS, but there is a little noise from the road at V D'Este.
Book well ahead.
The day we visited one of our most memorable afternoons in Italy and there have been many wonderful ones!

I'd definitely second the lunch at Villa D'este. WE went there when we were in Bellagio and had a wonderful time. Food was very good and the view of the lake sitting outside can't be beat
