Hi Folks, I wonder if any of the kind Florence residents or travelers here have happened upon a little store in Florence that has little lacy blouses for sale. I wish I had better descriptive words--not frilly lacy, but very chic and lightweight--some sort of very lightweight white cotton with lace worked into them? Maybe it's not even lace but embroidery? A very dear friend who has had a horrible year bought one in Florence a few years ago, and I'd like to surprise her with another since she has worn it out. If nobody knows offhand, I'll just ask her--but it would be nicer to surprise her. If this rings a dim bell, I'd be very grateful for ideas. thanks, Trish just 9 days till we leave--!

Trish, I'm not familiar with a store in Florence that sells them, but they are a very popular tourist offering in Assisi. You will see shops all up and down the main drag with these blouses.

Two shops spring to mind- I do not know the names of either, but can give you locations. What a thoughtful gift.
One is on either via di Santo Spirito or Borgo Sant'Jacopo- it is one street, but the name changes. It's close to where you're staying. If you are walking towards the Ponte Vecchio, it is on the right. They specialize in made to order blouses and shirts, but do have a lovely stock of ready-made ones. I have a great linen blouse that came from there- it seems to be indestructible.
The other is on one of the streets on the right, maybe v. Lambertesca or v. Vacchereccia, after you cross the Ponte Vecchio heading toward the Mercato Nuovo, or as I call it, the one with the pig.
Actually, now that I think of it, there are 2 shops that have embroidered and/or lace things, on v. Por S. Maria, at the end of the Ponte Vecchio. I know they have kids' stuff, and nightgowns, tablecloths, etc., but I'm not sure about blouses.
You must be getting excited!

Maureen, re: The shops near the Ponte Vecchio, are you thinking of TAF? (I'm pretty sure that's the name.) They have two shops across from each other; one has mostly household linens. My cousin bought some beautiful embroidered handkerchiefs there a couple of years ago.

Yes, Colleen- you're right! I can visualize the signs now on the v. Por S. Maria. I've never been in either one, only window-shopped and frequently fantasized that maybe, someday I could look at a hand-embroidered white linen and lace table-cloth and matching napkins for 18, without thinking "Stains?!! Ironing?!! I'd have to hire a staff to take care of this stuff!"
