I had some trouble accessing this site through the links that you provided. Actually, I could not get past step one, select a country to drop/pick up. I would push "go to next step" and it kept coming back to the first page.
I was able to call Autoeurope to obtain info and have a question about car drop off in Rome. The 2 locations that seemed easiest were Via Tibertina and Via DuPonte. We are coming in from A1 North (Pienza) and I think that we dropped of at Budget Maggiore on Tibertina before with no problem but am not certain. Any suggestions. This is Europecar. I need an easy stress free access to drop off. thank you cindy

Cindy, I need to do the same thing! We will be coming from the Chianti area back to Rome and I too need a stress free way to drop off the car. Did you book a car already? I looked at the Auro Europe sight but have not booked anything yet. I have to get busy as we need the car on July 23rd! Let me know what you do. Suzie
We dropped off on Via Tibertina and it was not a good location. It was just off the ring road, but the area was still very busy and it was hard to find the office. We were dropping off on Saturday and they were supposed to be closed, but they said there was a lot where we could leave the car. There was a parking lot, but it was fenced off and gated. However, we did find an office out back and they were open. This might have been where we were supposed to leave the car anyway.
If you do choose to drop off here, I will go thru my notes and get you good directions.
On other occasions we have just dropped off at the airport then take a taxi into Rome. In September I am going to try the location near the Borghese Gardens to drop off.
Another option is to dropoff in Chiusi and take the train to Rome.
I will add a section to our Car Rental page about dropping off in Rome - so if anyone has a location they recommend for dropping off, post it here.
I just wrote to AutoEurope asking for more information about Rome dropoffs - because I can't figure out where the Borghese Gardens location is. I will post when they answer.
I'll be picking up at the Cipro location in Rome and want to drop off in Chiusi. Is this possible? I tried to plug those locations in on the Autoeurope website and got a message saying no. Do I need to call instead?

I don't know about Cipro, but you can drop off in Chiusi. Call them.
Tell them you used our click thru (so we get the commission). If they ask, our IATA or Tracking No. is 99006630. I am going to add that to the footer of the message board so it is easy to find.
Thanks for all of the replies. I actually wanted to do the drop off in Chiusi but was told that they do not have a drop off in Chuisi. Avis did quote me another $250 to do the drop off at their locaion in Chiusi but that seems absurd.
I will look into Borghese Gardens. Is the airport drop off that easy?
We are doing the same thing - going to Rome from Panicale. We plan to drop off at the Borghese gardens location for Autoeurope. A friend of mine who lived in Rome told me that was the best place to do the drop off. I plan to get the directions when we pick up the car. We also purchased the good atlante stradale maps suggested on this site with the cd and plan to map it before we go.

I think the Villa Borghese location is 7 Via Lombardia. Using www.mapquest.com, you can type in that address and see exactly where it is. It's one of the few locations open in Rome on Sunday, so we'll probably have to use to it too, Pauline, when we drive down from Montepulciano in October. Does anyone know the best way to reach this location from the north?

Would it be crazy to drop the car off this far into Rome on a Sunday morning? We've picked up a car in Rome and driven OUT of the city, but somehow that's easier to me than trying to find a specific loaction. Thanks.

We did their Via Cipro location for pick up. As I was leaving Rome, I have to say I wasn't thinking, "how would this be driving in?"....but it did seem to be a fairly straight shot to the autostrada so reverse should be easy!?!

We have picked up and dropped off at the Via Lombardia location about 4 times. Getting out of Rome from there was easier for us than dropping off. Driving out of Rome, I usually mess up at the Porta Pinciana somehow. After 4 times, you think I would have figured it out, but I haven't. There are 2 reasons we have used this location. The first is that they are open on Sunday and the second is that we are either getting on the A1 or the S4. If this is your route and you drive by the Villa Ada, on the Via Salaria, you are pretty much home free!
Dropping off has been more difficult for us. The street (Via Lombardia) is one-way. Normally that would not present a problem for me, but it is a very short street, with the Via Veneto at the end of it. Depending upon the day and time, it can be a little tough to negotiate. Especially with about 100 vespas swarming around you (left, right, front and rear-they have no fear). The drop-off location is about a half block from the office. Make sure you note exactly what it looks like when you pick up, because it is not very well marked. It is a steep, narrow driveway, through gates, into an underground garage. The annoying part is if you drive past the drop-off driveway to the well marked office, you have gone too far on the one-way Via Lombardia and thus have to negotiate the Via Veneto, etc to get back to the garage.
However, I have made it safely every time and the staff at that office are very nice. I think a Sunday morning would be an ideal time to drop off.
Sorry for the long post, I hope it helps.

Thanks, Susie, for the info. Unfortunately we pick up the car in Parma so I won't be able to note the drop-off location, so maybe you could let me know if it's on the left or right as we drive down the one-way street. Maybe we'll be brave enough to try it on a Sunday, though certainly at no other time!

Thanks for the info Susie. On this message board, extra details are always appreciated.
I am still going to drop off at the airport. We drove into the center of Rome once before (got lost on our way to a hotel near the train station) and I never want to do that again.
Ann, make sure it is not a car-free Sunday - that might make a difference. You can check the dates on Dan's site - www.hostetler.net
We are returning our car at the Via Lombardi location on a Saturday and will also have the same problem of not seeing the drop off point since we will be picking up at the airport. I would also be interested in the left or right location of the drop off and how far from the office - one block, two blocks? This is such great information.

Both the office and the drop-off location are on the left side of the street if you are heading east. The Via Lombardia is one-way running from the west toward the east. As I recall, the office is near the northeast corner of the Via Lombardia and the Via Emilia. The drop-off garage is approximately one-half block west, between Via Emilia and Via Aurora Cadore.
For me, driving into Rome, I like to be on the Via Salaria (S4 - The ancient salt road). Even if I am coming down the A1, you can still get onto the S4 outside of Rome and this acts as the path right toward the Via Lombardia drop-off. You just want to make sure that you enter onto the Via Lombardia further west OR at the Via Aurora Cadore. Again, both the office and drop-off garage are on the left.
Don't let this be a dark cloud over your heads on your vacation! If you drive past the garage, re-negotiate the streets OR in one half block, on the left side of the street is the well-marked office! You can beg them to take the car to the garage! Just relax, breathe deeply and tell yourself that you will deserve a limoncello, prosecco, campari soda, gelato or whatever afterward!

So what does it cost these days to get from the airport to Rome? It may be best all around to pay the extra fee and drop off the car in Chiusi and train into Rome. Can someone verify that a dropoff in Chiusi is very easy?
