19 km over the speed limit = $14.10 per km
11 months later…with a falling dollar!!

My DH is having the laugh of his life because “I” received a registered letter today from “Comune di Riomaggiore, Polizia Municipale”. Of course I received the letter!!! I plan all the trips, including booking rooms, cars, airlines and the agriturismo… they’ll never find him because it’s all in my name.

“He” thinks I should be a little lighter footed, but he’d really appreciate it if everyone will tell him the location of all the other cameras, so that “I” don’t receive another registered letter from Italia.

I would really like the Polizia Municipale to be more timely. If they cut out some of the infamous bureaucracy, “my” 173 Euro fine would have been $235 instead of $268.

And you will probably have something international wire transfer fees or something to add some more cost before you are through.

But the real question is.....How could you possibly speed in Riomaggiore? There isn't a straight stretch or road longer than a 1/4 mile, as I recall.

You need a straight road to speed? Confused

Don't the municaple police use the mobile cameras they stand at? Easy enough to find everybody is flashing their headlights at you

I agree, and personally I don't think we were speeding and I know there were no Municipal Police on the side of the road.

That day we had reservations in Vernazza so we drove to Lerici, planning on taking the ferry. The seas were too rough so we then decided on the train... but the trains were on strike so we drove into Vernazza. The drive was slow curvy and at one point we had to pull our mirrors in so that we would not scrap the car coming up the road.

I sent this in an email to a friend in Italy and his response was this:

Don’t pay ! Unfortunately the Polizia Municipale are …… (expletive), everywere . The cameras are a very good way to cash a lot of money everyday , weeks and get a monthly turnover . In Italy there is a big discussion around this …!

They hide the cameras and get the position in advance it’s a problem.
