I know what closure means here (no one is using the fwy) but what does it mean in italy?

My via Michelin directions say " A29 lane(s)
closed until 16/02/2008". I assume just a slowing? 1-2 lanes closed with a potential bottle neck? RR

No, it means that it is closed.

What they do is that they make you exit at a certain point and you should get back in after that point, there will be directions on site.

This happens because either they are re-paving the road, or making a diversion or doing some other kind of extra work.

If it was closed one lane they would have said it.

That really dosn't make sense unless 70Km of road is closed. A29 between Castellammare Del golfo and Mazara del Vallo is a long distance. There must be a website on the autostrada? RR

Ok, I found it, it means that in the strip of road between Castellammare del Golfo and Mazara some lanes will be closed because works like, re-paving, enlarging or similar are being done.

So you take that autostrada, and you know that through all the road there will be lanes closed, so you'll be diverted to drive on the other side of the road that will be transformed temporarily in a 2 one lane roads.

It doesn't specify if south lane or north lane because it will be changed at times.

If the autostrada was closed -it happens at times- it would have said,

TRATTO AUTOSTRADALE CHIUSO da Castellammare del Golfo a Mazara del vallo, cause lavori etc etc etc

but whenthey close the autostrada, they specify for how long and the trait is usually really short, like 20/25 km

Robert -

We drove that highway just a few weeks ago and no sign of any closure or slowing. Was a piece of cake to drive.

Thanks kevin. It's funny but the Via Michelin directions show an average speed of 100 km/hour on the autostrada.I wonder why? I certainly will go at least 130km/hr! RR

While this site will not solve Robert's problem it might be helpful to someone in the future.

Because more than you think decide to drive at less than the maximum speed -ok, some will speed faster - but more will drive under.
Plus, considering any slowing, the times you'll stop and so forth, to go at a Average speed of 100km/h you should touch 150-170 pretty often!
