Yes, I used the find, but I didn't find the answer to this! I'm planning to stay in a small (2-star) hotel in Florence next October. I understand there are stairs and a gentleman to help with luggage. What would be an appropriate tip? How about a taxi driver that helps load the luggage into the car and out onto the curb at the airport? ---Marlene

Taxi driers are supposed to help you load and unload the luggage, no tip required. At a two star hotel, you will probbly ask for someone to help you with the luggage, since I strongly doubt they have a porter. I would tip 5 euro maximum. Actually, I would make sure that I can carry my own stuff myself, but I am an odd one.

How generous, Alice! Rule of thumb last I looked was €1 per bag.
Best of course is to have what you can carry yourself, trains and stairs coming into it, but my friend lives up so many stairs she unpacks in the car into sacks and carries it up day by day. 144 really steep steps. Ugh.

Thanks a bunch. Somewhere between 1-5 Euros, I guess. I have not perfected the talent of traveling light, and given some physical limitations what I could carry up several flights of stairs without pain would be very light indeed! ---Marlene
