I am going on my honeymoon in two weeks and am looking to surprise my bride to be with a trip from Rome(where we are staying) to Palermo(she's Sicilian and wants to visit there) does anyone know anything about travel, prices etc. to help?
There are two discount airlines - Air One and WindJet - that fly Rome-Palermo; they both have Web sites where you can book. There's also a ferry from Naples that GAC has given quite a lot of information about recently. You should be able to find it if you put >Palermo ferry< into the Find box.
Costs in Palermo can be as high or as low as you like; you can stay in a B&B or a luxury hotel. There's quite a range of restaurants as well. Generally speaking, Palermo is cheaper than Rome.
You could also consider "wining and dining" your fiancee by taking the luxury overnight car ferry operated by Grandi Navi Veloci (Grimaldi Lines) from Civitavecchia (the port of Rome) to Palermo. This ship also has very nice "matrimonial suites" which you might find conducive to a pleasant overnight trip. The trip takes 12 hours. Civitavecchia is one hour by train northwest of Rome. Taking the ferry from Civitavecchia is an alternative to the overnight car ferry out of Naples.
The fastest way to Palermo, of course, is by plane.
